Having moved from Colorado to Michigan several years ago I have found an abundance of wildlife and new exciting subjects to paint and photograph, and I especially enjoy the woodlands near our house. A lot of my painting ideas are from my many trips to wooded areas around home, far and near especially during the springtime and fall.
My medias are watercolor, egg tempera and photography. My latest adventure in painting is working in egg tempera after an intense class at the J.C. Campbell School in North Carolina in the spring of 2008 and 2009. I find it exciting to make one’s own paints and gessoed boards as the masters did hundreds of years ago. I like working on the “porcelain like” finish with several layers of pure pigment mixed with egg yolk. The brilliance of the colors when working in egg tempera is truly exciting for me.
