A lifetime resident of Tippecanoe County, Indiana, I only realized the joy of painting and creating art works as a mature adult. As a working mother (of five beautiful children), it was difficult to find the time to develop my fascination with art and design into something more personally enjoyable.
As I was planning for my early retirement, I started some art lessons and quickly found I was immersed. I studied pastel and acrylics with Bette Goodrich, Bob Heger, Karen Bartlett and Sharon Griffes Tarr and enjoyed extended pastel workshops with Bob Rohm and Doug Dawson. Later, when I joined the ranks of retired persons and could devote more time to painting, I found that while occupied with my new passion, everyday cares disappeared and ills of the heart were diminished.
Indiana juried exhibits included the following: In 2004, Crawfordsville Art League’s Annual Fall Art Exhibit; in 2005, Crawfordsville Art League’s Annual Fall Art Exhibit and the Harvest Biennial Regional Juried Exhibition, at The Arts Place in Portland, Indiana; in 2006, in the “Grand WAAbash” sponsored by the Wabash Artists’ Alliance in Lafayette, Indiana; also, my first solo exhibit was held at the Café Royale in West Lafayette during the month of February, 2006.
Shortly after my arrival in Michigan, I joined the Mid-Michigan Art Guild, the MSU Community Club Art Group and the Great Lakes Pastel Society. One of my pastels was chosen for the Hope Borbas Okemos Library Invitational juried exhibit in October 2006 and I have continued to exhibit in other local venues.
My wish as an artist is that those who view my work find the peace and joy in viewing it that I find in creating it.
